The Maier laboratory at CeMM, the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, is recruiting a highly motivated Technical Assistant to join an international team of scientists working in the field of tumor immunology / cancer immunotherapy.
Our team is looking for a passionate scientist to join as Technical Assistant to support ongoing projects by performing ex vivo and in vivo experiments on mouse models of different cancers. The successful candidate will become an expert in cell-culture based assays assessing immune cell interactions and phenotypes, as well as in mouse models of lung cancer. After receiving the appropriate training, the new Technical Assistant will independently carry out experiments using mouse tumor models and cell culture-based techniques. In addition, the new group member will be a part of individual as well as group meetings to deepen their understanding of the background and current scientific directions in the field of tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy.
Requirements and desired qualifications
Degree in life sciences (B.Sc., M.Sc., Mag., DI)
Eager to join a young team and be trained in new techniques and science of tumor immunology
Qualified laboratory experience in molecular and cellular biology and/or immunology
Experience with mouse handling and cell culture
Experience with basic molecular biology (e.g. cloning and PCR)
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
High accuracy, reliability and independence, able to work seamlessly in a team
Excellent communication skills and organizational skills
Tasks and responsibilities
Management of mouse colonies, genotyping
Mouse models of lung cancer and other cancers
Isolation of primary immune cells from different tissues (mouse, human)
Phenotyping of immune cells using multicolor flow cytometry
Molecular biology, such as cloning or preparation of next-generation sequencing libraries
Organization of laboratory space, ordering of laboratory consumables
The Barbara Maier Laboratory
The Lab of Barbara Maier investigates how solid tumors evade the immune system; what local factors in the tumor microenvironment dampen the activity of immune cells; and how immune cells can be reprogrammed to mount an efficient immune response against tumors. We combine cell-culture based high throughput technologies, mechanistic in vivo studies using mouse models, single-cell transcriptomics, and immune-profiling of patient-derived tumor material.
About the Institute
The mission of CeMM, the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is to achieve maximum scientific innovation in molecular medicine to improve healthcare. At CeMM, an international and creative team of scientists and medical doctors pursues free-minded basic life science research in a large and vibrant hospital environment of outstanding medical tradition and practice. CeMM’s research is based on post-genomic technologies and focuses on societally important diseases, such as immune disorders and infections, cancer and metabolic disorders. CeMM operates in a unique mode of super-cooperation, connecting biology with medicine, experiments with computation, discovery with translation, and science with society and the arts. CeMM discovers and develops technologies to explore human biology with the purpose of defeating disease at its roots. Because Science is our Medicine! CeMM trains a modern blend of biomedical scientists and is located at the campus of the General Hospital and the Medical University of Vienna. More than 150 people from 45 nationalities are working at CeMM. CeMM promotes equal opportunity and harbors a mix of different talents, backgrounds, competences, and interests.
