Technical Assistant in Cancer Chemical Biology (m/f/d)

The Georg Winter Lab at CeMM, the Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, is recruiting a highly motivated Technical Assistant who is excited to work with us on the identification and development of novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of cancers.

We are an international and multi-disciplinary research lab. When you work with us, you will work in a team of molecular biologists, biochemists, computer scientists and medicinal chemists. Most of our projects are enabled by high-throughput technologies such as genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screens, proteomics, phenotypic drug screens, RNA-sequencing and related transcriptional readouts. The setup in our group is interdisciplinary, diverse and inclusive. This fosters an environment that is required for the generation of innovate ideas and novel concepts that are needed to advance therapeutic strategies for the treatment of cancer.

The Candidate

We are seeking enthusiastic and energetic candidates to join our team. The successful applicant should have a Master’s degree in life sciences and an excellent background in molecular biology or biochemistry. Candidates that have a PhD degree will also be considered. Prior experience in a wet-lab setting is an advantage. The selected candidate will contribute to different projects in the lab and support and oversee the general organization of the lab. Your tasks and responsibilities contain, but are not limited to:

  • General lab management and lab organization
  • Cell Culture (maintenance, manipulation via genome engineering, cellular viability assays, drug screens)
  • Functional genomics including CRISPR/Cas9 screens and protein stability reporter screens
  • General molecular biology techniques (immunoblots, cloning, immunoprecipitations)
  • Technology development
  • Training of new lab members

The working language at CeMM is English, and excellent written and oral communication skills as well as high accuracy, reliability and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are a requirement.

About the Institute

CeMM is one of Europe’s leading biomedical research institutes. CeMM researchers routinely publish important discoveries in top journals. Over the last seven years, this included >10 papers in Nature/Cell/Science/NEJM and >30 papers in Nature/Cell sister journals – with a team of 120-150 scientists. Research at CeMM is exceptionally collaborative and has strong focus on medical impact, based on a profound molecular understanding of diseases such as cancer and immune disorders. CeMM is part of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a founding member of EU-LIFE. It is located at the center of one of the largest medical campuses in Europe, within walking distance of Vienna’s historical city center. A study by “The Scientist” put CeMM among the top-5 best places to work in academia worldwide (https://www.the-scientist.com/features/best-places-to-work-academia-2012-40676). Vienna is frequently ranked the world’s best city to live. It is a United Nations city with a large English-speaking community. The official language at CeMM is English, and >49 different nationalities are represented at the institute. CeMM promotes equal opportunity and harbors a mix of different talents, backgrounds, competences, and interests.
